An ERP built from scratch for industries whose production runs on formulas — medical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics. It goes from the supplier quotation to the outbound invoice, covering formula, production order, weighing, batch control, inventory and finance.
The challenge
A generic ERP does not work for the pharmaceutical industry. What governs that sector is traceability: for every bottle sold you have to know which finished-product batch it came from, which raw-material batches went into that production run, which supplier each of them came from, who weighed them, how much they weighed and at which stage of the formula. Off-the-shelf systems either treat that as an optional text field, or cost far too much for a mid-sized manufacturer. And adapting a generic ERP to that level of demand usually costs more than writing one.
The solution
Aeternus was written around the formula. A formula has phases, each phase has its raw materials and its steps, and the production order is the execution of that formula over concrete batches. At weighing, every weighed material is bound to its source batch — and that is what closes traceability end to end. Inventory follows the same logic: warehouses, raw-material and finished-product batches, movements and stocktaking, all by batch rather than by aggregate quantity. The commercial and tax cycle is integrated into the same model: supplier quotation (with an external portal where the supplier fills in the offer themselves), purchase order, goods receipt, sales order, picking, sale, invoice with tax calculation, accounts payable and receivable. And there is a quality module with checklists and answer keys for samples and procedures. Every relevant entity has its own audit trail — thirteen log tables — because in a regulated industry “who changed this” is a question that always comes back. The system has been multilingual from the start, with its own dictionary of terms, and runs in a container on Amazon ECS, using a separate read replica so that reporting does not compete with day-to-day operations.
Results
83 domain entities and 35 operational modules written from scratch in two years. The system is being rolled out, with the full cycle — from quotation to outbound invoice — already available.
